This weekend, Belizeans on social media took notice of a video out of a right wing US media platform, which shows several migrant children who appeared to have either crossed the border or were attempting to cross the border illegally into South Texas, USA.
As you may have heard in international news, the US is currently facing an immigration issue where approximately 15,500 minors from the Americas have fled their country without their parents, and are seeking asylum in the United States. They are currently stranded in Border Patrol facilities that are not designed for long-term custody.
The reason this particular video was of interest this weekend is that one of the 5 children being interviewed asserts that she is from Belize and that she has a Belizean mother, and an American father. The children told the person recording the video that they were on the way to turn themselves in to the US Border Patrol Authorities. Here's that interview now:
Press reports out of the US say that almost 10,000 unaccompanied minors entered US border custody in February. That was a record high, but the March numbers are expected to be bigger than that because the border officials have reportedly come across more than 500 unaccompanied minors per day in the last 3 weeks.
