Belize and Cuba are in their 26th year of diplomatic relations and yesterday, in Belmopan, the Governor General welcomed a new Ambassador from Havana.
María Caridad Balaguer, presented her Letter of Credentials to Governor General Froyla Tzalam at the Belize House in Belmopan.
According to a release, the ambassador expressed her country's hope of continuing to strengthen the special bilateral relationship with Belize, which includes cooperation in areas including health, education and tourism.
During the brief meeting, there was an exchange of gifts and a toast to the diplomatic bond between the two countries.
And while the GG does tea and crumpets in Belmopan, in Barbados that have scrapped that post and moved to a republican model, which will see the current Governor General Dame Sandra Prunella Mason become the island nation's first President.
This will happen on November 30 which is the country's independence day.
