The Sapodilla Cayes came back into the public consciousness in October when it was announced that Belize would confirm their ownership at the ICJ.

Last week we got an update on the process from the Minister of Foreign Affairs:

Eamon Courtenay, Minister Of Foreign Affairs & Immigration

"Honduras, Belize against Honduras the ICJ president met with both the parties, last week I think it was in the Hague to see the pleadings schedule, both sides explained to the court what their respective positions were and we are awaiting the order from the court as to when Belize will have to put in it's memorial and when Honduras will put in its counter-memorial and so that is where that is."

And that schedule is now known. The Registrar of the International Court of Justice has informed Belize's Agent, Assad Shoman that the Court has fixed May 2, 2023, for Belize to file its Memorial and December 4, 2023, for the Republic of Honduras to file its Counter-Memorial.
