The President of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-Wen left Belize this afternoon - after a whirlwind 46 hour visit to one of the island nation's last two remaining allies in Central America.
Last night the Prime Minister hosted her at a dinner on the grounds of the Museum of Belize where he raised a toast, and offered the president some chopsticks to eat with:
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"This visit has been one more step in the strengthening of our excellent relationship. Today, Belize and Taiwan remain united by our cooperation efforts, but more so by our beliefs in those great causes like freedom, democracy, peace, the betterment of our people and the rule of law. So madam president, I want to raise a toast to you, the people of Taiwan and to everlasting friendship. Que Viva Taiwan, Que Viva Belice."
Dr. Tsai Ing-Wen, President of the Republic of China (Taiwan)

"Earlier today I had the opportunity to sit down with Prime Minister Briceno and other government officials to discuss our bilateral relationship. I also had the privilege of speaking our strong and healthy partnership at the national assembly. So now at least join me in raising your glasses to Prime Minister Briceno and Mrs. Briceno and to the enduring friendship between Belize and Taiwan. Our bonds are strong and may they grow ever stronger. Thank you."
