And while the first Deputy of the UDP Hugo Patt attended yesterday's special joint sitting of the House, he couldn't have been bothered to make it to the UDP's National Party Council Meeting on Saturday.

His absence at a meeting of the party's second highest decision making body was glaring - especially when they were gathering to decide on their leader for the next two to three years.

This morning he appeared on "Sunup on 7" and was asked why he was a no show at the meeting. He gave the farmers' equivalent of "the dog ate my homework" when he said, problem at the farm:

"We understand that you weren't there. Was there any reason a to why?"

Hugo Patt, First Deputy, UDP

"Actually yes, I had some mishaps with the farming that we do and so I was unable to attend, but indeed I think the UDP has had its fair share of internal turmoil and from a person standpoint, I just hope that we are able to get our differences aside. I just hope that we can have sober heads prevail and that we can unify. Our supporters and the nation they are expecting on a unified party and a unified opposition. And so, it is my hope that we can leave things aside and we can get back to business."

Host
"The whole deal with Hon. Patrick Faber writing that letter, what are your thoughts per say?"

Hugo Patt, First Deputy, UDP
"I have been very open when it comes to the issue of Hon. Patrick Faber. You know Patrick is the longest serving area rep., he is a warrior, a fighter for the United Democratic Party and I have been very vocal in terms of my support for him as the area rep. for Collet. We might have our differences, we might have a difference in opinion, but when it comes to the Honourable Faber, it is my frank and sincere desire to see him restored as the area rep, for Collet."
