And in other news, the Benque Fire Station has gottten some much needed TLC. The inauguration of the new - and improved - fire station comes after the renovations in Orange Walk, and is accompanied by promises of assistance for other fire stations across the country.
But in Benque, the officer in charge at the station explained that their working conditions prior to these renovations were horrid.
Fire Station Officer
"From since I got transferred to this station about 3 years ago, what I came to meet the station was in bad condition to the point that you have pigeons and rat bats living in the ceilings, cockroaches and while at work you have the scent, because of the rat bat droppings. It really messed up you while working and due us having this confine space, the space is limited and so we really can't get out. And because we had to be in the station with all that smell, it started to bother us and since we got new CEO and stuff, the fire chief also played a big role in getting our station back together. With the new improvement for the station, the department changed the entire roof and painted over the station. We are going to standard color for the station. As you notice its grey and red, the location of the OC office has moved from inside the station to the other side of the station, so its separate now. We have more space and more open work area, so it's really good now, because you can breathe better, and we could train more freely without things in our way."
