We also asked the mayor about one of the city council's main mandates - streets. A surprising number of them on the Southside are being paved, but streets in residential Northside constituencies, like Freetown, seem to be neglected. We know that the Southside streets are usually paved by the gang members employed by the LIU, but are Northside neighborhoods being shorted on infrastructure because they don't have gangs? That's what we asked the mayor.

Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City

"We have done tremendous work in Freetown, we just concluded TV Ramos, Maurice Bishop, Freetown is a unique type of division, it has good infrastructure, but all constituencies need additional infrastructure, I will not stand here and say that we have achieved all the infrastructure, there are 700+ streets in the city, at no point in time can we ever reach the point where we have completed all the streets. Mayor Bradley did some streets, we continue along the lines with infrastructure as well and the other team that comes behind us will have to continue. Again, in assessing how streets are selected, it is a very unique type of process, it has to do with need, with usage, with compliance and all of those components put together is how we decide which streets get rehabilitated or get cemented or get chip and seal it's a very technical process."
