When the Council meets it will also consider the fate of Christine Perriott - Manager of Human Resources and Public Relations. The celebrated unionist has been serving a week’s suspension as she is under investigation for misappropriating fuel. We asked the Mayor about the perilous state of her former union sister.
Zenaida Moya, Mayor of Belize City
“Ms. Perriott is currently out for a week and…”
Jules Vasquez,
She’s on suspension.
Zenaida Moya,
“Correct, she’s out on suspension and that’s it.”
Jules Vasquez,
Is she being suspended because she allegedly misappropriated fuel for herself?
Zenaida Moya,
“Jules the decision to invoke a suspension on the HR Director was a caucus decision. It was requested for to ensure that a proper investigation is carried out into a particular matter and I feel it would be unfair of me to speak anything further until that particular matter is settled appropriately.”
Jules Vasquez,
Now I know she is your former Union sister, you all fought in the trenches in 2005. Does it pain you, upset you to have to enforce this sort of suspension?
Zenaida Moya,
“Well clearly I will not shy away from it. Christine is my friend, Christine is somebody that I hold very dearly and whatever that has to be done to such a person, it is not easy.”
Jules Vasquez,
Is this a personal grievance between her and Councillor Mark King because as HR Manager she withdrew some phones from Mark King? That’s the story we heard.
Zenaida Moya,
“Again I won’t speculate into the matter.”
Jules Vasquez,
You don’t have to speculate, you know.
Zenaida Moya,
“You know Jules sometimes the positveness sometimes get swept aside and I want us to focus on this wonderful traffic gazebo. We need to be positive. Belize City needs some more positiveness Jules and I will see if you put this in the newscast; I will see.”
