For a few weeks now, we've been reporting on the back and forth between UDP propagandist Delroy Cuthklevin and the leadership of his party.
In May, he was summoned before the party's ethics committee to answer to a formal complaint that he was, quote, "engaging in behavior detrimental to the UDP." Specifically, they were talking about ads - the kind you see on this newscast almost every night - attacking UDP Leader Shyne Barrow for various failings.
Well, Cuthklevin ever appeared before the ethic committee; he blew off their meeting. But, the meeting still proceeded and their decision was announced today.
A release says, quote, "it has been decided that Mr. Delroy Cuthkelvin is expelled from the UDP for one year for violating the Party Constitution with his sustained public bombardment of attacks on the Party.
Mr Cuthkelvin (has become)...an agent of destruction that serves the agenda of the People's United Party." End quote.
Now, while the word "expel" usually means you're gone for good - the Ethic Committee is treating it more like a one year suspension. Their statement says, "After a year has passed, an application for reinstatement may be considered by the Ethics and Integrity Committee if the committee is satisfied that Mr. Cuthkelvin has issued a public apology and pledges to abide by the conditions of the membership in the Party." End quote.
That's not likely to happen, but Cuthkelvin says he will answer for himself tomorrow when he has agreed to an interview.
