One week ago, the National Trade Union Congress of Belize was one of the groups leading the protest against the government's 7 million dollar purchase of private land for a University Hospital.

But today, emotions have subsided, and outrage may have morphed into weary resentment, so much so that one has the sense that the dog may still be in the fight, but there's not much fight left in the dog.

President Luke Martinez rejected that today though. He says they are just going through a different route. He told us via zoom that the unions will mount a legal challenge:

Luke Martinez, President NTUCB
"I could tell you that the National Trade Union Congress have officially voted by majority that we are going to take the government to court to settle this issue. Right, so I'm hearing the Prime Minister that this is a done deal and they are moving ahead."

"That is not a responsible feedback from the person who is in charge of our international and national affairs. We have agreed so far jointly that we will write to the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Natural Resources to get the information from them using the Freedom of Information act."
