A new set of COVID Regulations were signed into law today - and they make way for sporting events to be held - without spectators. The regulations in STATUTORY INSTRUMENT No. 51 2021 say, "a person may host a recreational or competitive sporting event for a non-contact sport. A sporting event that is allowed under these Regulations shall not be open to spectators."

It also permits contact sports, but for training purposes only, with participants exempted from practicing social distancing; or wearing a face mask.

So what are contact sports, and what is a non contact sport? A list provided by the Ministry pf Health says that contact sports include Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Karate, Softball and Volleyball.

Non-contact Sports include Billiards, Body Building, Canoeing, Cricket, Cycling, Tennis and Track & Field. You can see the full list on our Facebook page. The new regs also allow restaurants, saloons, and diners to fill their establishment to 75% capacity rather than 50 for dine-in customers.
