And, as we close tonight - we know there is anxiety all across Belize tonight - as there should be - a strengthening storm is headed our way.
But, all we can do is be prepared, and the latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Lisa is heading west at about 15 miles per hour. It is expected to make landfall on the Belize mainland late on Wednesday - and the latest forecast points to a landfall just north of Gales Point - but we stress that is only a forecast and can change COMPLETELY - which is why the entire coast is under a hurricane warning. Our reading of the map suggests that the eye of the storm will be about 25 miles east of Glovers by midday tomorrow.
Right now, the National Hurricane Centre's wind probability graphic is showing an 80 to 90% chance that Belize City will experience 40 mile per hour winds. and a 30 to 40% chance that the city will receive hurricane force winds. Some models are also suggesting that the storm could be a category two by the time it makes landfall. Again, these are only forecasts - and tomorrow morning at 9:00 the Chief Met Officer will help us parse through all of it when he holds a press briefing via Zoom which will be aired live on Channel 7.
