Yesterday we aired portions of the Statistical Institute of Belize's quarterly press conference where they outlined the GDP and consumer confidence forecast. One of their statisticians also spoke about the current rate of inflation. It was up less than a percentage point in August 2025, but for 2025, it is up 1.3% so far. He spoke about the key areas driving that inflation:

Jaime Crespo, Statistician 2

"The year-to-date inflation rate for the first eight months in 2025 stood at 1.3% when compared to the same period in 2024. The main contributor to the overall increase was the food and non-alcoholic beverages category and higher prices were seen for food and non-alcoholic beverage items, home rental costs, LPG costs, and personal care items."

"This was mainly due to an increase in prices for cereal products, fruits and nuts, meats, fruits and vegetable, juices, purified water, and soft drinks. We can observe that San Pedro Town experienced the highest year-to-date inflation rate at 3.2% while Independence experienced the lowest year-to-date inflation rate at negative 1.1%."

"Let's look at the year-to-date inflation rate by the regional level. We can observe that Panama recorded the lowest year-to-date inflation rate at negative 0.4% while Honduras recorded the highest at 4.5%."

"Comparing Belize with the selected countries, Belize is experiencing a moderate inflation as it is lower than most of the selected countries."
