And the city's other standing murder happened on Sunday morning.

And tonight, Belize City butcher Albert Broaster lies in the morgue. The 47-year-old was stabbed at the hands of his ex-common-law Lisa Lauriano.

And by all accounts, this was the worst possible ending to a cycle of violence that had played itself out between the couple for almost 7 years.

I visited the shocking scene of the crime this morning.

This is the corner of Hicatee and Bocotora streets where butcher and Handyman Albert Broaster had his last stand. On Sunday morning, he had a dispute with his girlfriend, Lisa Luriano - with whom he'd had a history of abuse. And on Sunday, things took a drastic and deadly turn when they rounded this corner and she pulled out a knife and inflicted a fatal stab wound.

Broaster's bosses at the Micheal Finnegan market say that the incident unfolded so fast that they had no time at all to react.

Sherman Artal - Butcher, Jun's Meat Shop
"We came in at work it was just a regular day and he was here with us working as usual and he just disappeared, he just left and that was it, when we heard the news, it was because it was already too late."

Cherisse Halsall
"Now, you live in the neighborhood. Tell me what you saw that morning"

Eyewitness
"I just see a little commotion with a woman and man and we come out and he hear like the man the bawl after that. We see the man the run around."

Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero
"Investigations are that he went with his ex-common law, Lisa Lauriano who inflicted the fatal. Lisa Lauriano is presently in police custody and will be charged sometime today. The information we have is that they had an argument and she pulled out the knife and inflicted the stab wounds to him."

Jules Vasquez
"Were there domestic violence reports with this couple?"

Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero
"Yes we have reports that were made at the domestic violence unit."

Jules Vasquez
"Who was the complainant, the victim or the accused?"

Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero
"Lisa Lauriano was the person who made the reports."

But while Lauriano filed the official complaints and got medico legal forms, Broaster's family claims she was often the one terrorizing him.

Joseph Tillett - Albert Broaster's brother
"My brother was no angel, he had his past but because of the numerous incidents with his common-law we told him to walk away because it could end up whereby he either kills his common law or the common law kills him so it was, we cautioned him numerous times about his relationship."

Cherisse Halsall
"So this was in fact a pattern?"

Joseph Tillett
"Yeah this is like the fourth time he's been stabbed by his common law. His fingers are messed up he had stab wounds on his shoulder, I used to go and look for him, he had stab wounds in his chest before and in his head. We knew that something would have ended up like this."

A foreseeable end, but apparently, not a preventable one. Now, the family who says they knew he'd end up the way he did has no choice but the mourn the man who they say, couldn't escape a cycle of violence.

Joseph Tillett
"He always had a smile on his face, he's hard-working, I mean there's nothing or any sort of problem you would have, he's really a handyman because he actually built his own house you know and he's actually a butcher and he's an all rounder, he's well-loved. He's loved by many in the neighborhood on Pen road and he'll be sorely missed by his family and friends."

Cherisse Halsall
"Your brother was caught in this tumultuous relationship but he was not the only one, many people in this country caught in that type of cycle. What would you say to them?"

Frances Robateau Broaster - Albert Broaster's sister
"If your in that kind of relationship because I've been through it, move out because the amount of comments that I see that they are saying my brother was the abuser, it's a lie. We know the life that he lived here with that young lady. You need to move, you need to get help, start your life over and move out of the relationship because he told me, sis either I kill she or she kill me because he didn't want to go to jail."

Police say they will consult the DPP before they bring charges - since, in the case of domestic killings, it is rarely straightforward, and there had been a history of violence.
