So, it's all out gang warfare - on one busy Monday in the City - two acts of brazen gun violence - during daylight hours - one of them fatal, the other targeting a teenaged minor.
Today in Belmopan - the Commissioner met with all his commanders to discuss the rise in gun violence:
Jules Vasquez
"How you'd respond to the criticism that once again, gang violence in the city and in other parts of the country is spiraling out of control? You all controlled it substantially last year, however 2021 is looking like a high crime year and communities are feeling the effect of it. Have you all loss that control that you had?"
Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"If you notice this morning I have all my commanders her, I brought in the commanders from across the country because that is one of the issue were discussing today. The fact we have seen an increase in gun violence across the country and I will be speaking with my minister today to see if we can make some recommendations in respect to that. Last year was good but we had a number of lock downs last year, including 3 months lock down in Belize City. So perhaps that is what they want, so we will see where we can go with that."
Jules Vasquez
"South side state of emergency sir, you've been threatening it but we know that your minister does not have the ganas to pull the trigger on a UDP style south side state of emergency. Wek now you ready to do it but he no ready to do it."
Chester Williams
"You might be underestimating my minister, I'll leave it at that."
