And the latest person to die from gun violence was a teenager. 17-year-old Kanye King was fatally shot this morning on Park Street in the Lake Independence area – but his death was retaliation for another shooting that happened last night.

Last night at around 11:00, 49-year-old Joseph "Tencho" Panting and his 13-year-old son, Keon Panting, narrowly escaped death after a gunman came up to their front door. The older Panting opened the door and immediately recognized the gunman as King, who fired at him. King and another man then went into the house and aimed at Keon and his brother, Kewan. Their father shielded them and while he sustained several gunshots, he survived the incident.

His shooter wasn't so lucky - and less than 12 hours later, he was dead in a separate incident. Today, we got the details from Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero.

Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero
"Police responded to a shooting incident in the Mayflower area, two persons were taken to the KHMH with gunshot injuries, namely Joseph Panting and Keon Panting. Information was they were at home when they heard a knock on the door, they opened the door and they a saw a group of male persons, one of them fired shots at them causing their injuries. They are both at the KHMH at this time receiving treatment are in stable condition. We are seeking one suspect in regards to this shooting."

Jules Vasquez
"Was the target in this case Mr. Panting or was it someone targeting his son?"

Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero
"Again that is the information we have that they were both targeted inside the house."

Jules Vasquez
"Now you all had a suspect for this crime from the Banak street area I'm told but then said person was targeted in a murder this morning."

Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero

"Yes this morning police responded to a shooting incident where someone was shot in the gungulungs area, the person was taken to the KHMH where he succumbed to his injuries and that person Kanye King and yes he was the suspect for that shooting last night in the Mayflower area."

Jules Vasquez
"Is it a direct act of retaliation?"

Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero
"That is the information we have, yes he was targeted as a result of that."

Our records show that in 2010, Jospeh Tencho Panting was shot in the face and survived.

In this case, both he and his son are admitted in a stable condition.
