Turning now to Cayo - on Saturday night a 19 year old lost his life in a fatal collision. Jaylon Alvarez was on a motorcycle on the Branch Mouth road when he crashed head on into an SUV - and died on the spot from the massive impact.
Police explained the circumstances:

"Just at the corner of the branch mouth on Luma Luz boulevard they observed a grey Ford escape with extensive damage being driven by one Valdimir Lino, of a Belize City address and also seen a short distance away was the apparent lifeless body of Jaylon Alvarez, 19 years who was next to a black motorcycle with extensive damages. What the police know so far is that Mr. Lino was traveling into San Ignacio town from the direction of Santa Elena when he made a left turn in a southerly direction into the oncoming lane of the motorcyclist and thereby colliding into him. As a result he then drove another 150 feet before coming to a stop and then came out along with others and try to render assistance to Mr. Alvarez who was on the ground. He was later transported to the San Ignacio community hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have Mr. Lino detained and I believe samples were taken whilst the investigation continues."
IT is unclear if Alvarez was wearing a helmet.
