The Ministry of Education has spent the past few months gearing up for face-to-face classes. And just before school was set to reopen, they decided against in class learning. That's because of the dramatic rise in COVID cases. In a press release, they noted that the Ministry of Health and Wellness has recommended that schools proceed with distance learning. MOE is following this recommendation and as such, all government and grant aided schools will start the school year on August 23rd for secondary schools and August 30th for pre-primary and primary schools. They say Face-to-face learning will return when deemed safe and the release notes that that might be sooner than later since the Pfizer vaccine, which will be available for kids 12 to 17 years old, will be coming into the country this week.
We note that many children have been out of the classroom for more than 17 months.
We'll have more on Thursday when the Ministry has a press conference.
