Dangriga, it's the town that has witnessed a burglary at the sub-treasury three times - and early this morning a burglar or burglars tried their luck with one of the 2 commercial banks in the town.
They broke into the Belize Bank Branch by prying open the back door and then proceeded to ransack the office, with little success.
They got nothing but it has raised security concerns. ASP Stacy Smith told us more.
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer

"At approximately 3:30 AM on Monday 15th of December 2025 officers attached to the Dangriga police station were alerted that the alarms of the Belize Bank Limited located on 24, 84 Ecumenical Drive Dangriga town went off. The officers proceeded to that location and upon arrival they noted signs of forced entry to the rear of the building and upon making further checks they observed that the building was apparently ransacked. The officers spoke to the branch manager who stated from her review of the bank nothing was stolen so far neither finance nor electronic device, however the investigation in this matter continues."
Due to the break in - the bank opened at noon today.
A statement issued by the Belize Bank today says, quote, "The matter is currently under investigation by the relevant authorities. and they wish to reassure customers and the general public that no assets were compromised and all systems and operations remain fully intact. Normal operations will fully resume tomorrow."
