Tonight the Ramnarace family of Belmopan is one step closer to justice - after the statement of victim Vivian Ramnarace was accepted into evidence by the High Court. She's the wife of John Ramnarace; he and his brother David were killed on New Years Eve, 2022 by a gunman who barged into their property and opened fire. Vivian was inside and she lived for 13 days after the shooting - and in that time gave an eyewitness statement identifying former police corporal Elmer Nah as the shooter.

Well, the admissibility of that statement was challenged in court - through a protracted trial within a trial that started in June and ended today. It finished with a victory for the prosecution - led by Jamaican prosecutor Terrence Williams. Justice Nigel Pilgrim ruled that the statement was admissible- among other evidence:
Terrence Williams, Prosecutor
"To admit various pieces of evidence, the statement of the deceased, Mrs. Ramnarace, and video evidence relative to the crown is relying on. So matter has been adjourned for the defense to make further submissions regarding how the crown has now closed its case."
"So it's for the defense to make submissions and close the crown's case and we take it from there."
Elmer Nah

"Lone lies in the court. Lone lies. Full of lies. This tatoo right here in the video gun man with the right hand. In the back camera. This right here. This is what will prove the truth."
The defence will make submissions when the case resumes on the ninth of February.
