What Does Belize's First \"Special Envoy For Oil\" Do?

Attorney David Morales is Belize's first ever Special Envoy for Oil and Gas. He was appointed by his cousin, Prime Minister John Briceño for a 3 year term on first October, 2025.

So, is it just another crony position for a Briceno relative? Well,Morales tells us it's not. He told us via text, quote, "I have been in the industry for over 20 years. I am the PM's personal representative to advance Belize's interests, provide strategic guidance and diplomatic representation on matters related to the nation's participation in global oil and gas markets, energy security, and major foreign direct investments initiatives in connection (with that)." End quote.

He says he does not collect a salary for the post.
