And in another part of history, Captain Sanchez shared how he started a national tradition that now takes place every September 1st. He says he was never recognized for what he started.

Capt. Nicolas Sanchez, Tour Guide Pioneer & Historian

"They have not nevermind, think, they have not, I know they have not. On the 1st of September for the last few years they raise the flag and it has even become the national flag day. I started that. On the 1st of September 2009, and my old friend, historian Nicolas Sutherland said to me, Captain Sanchez you make sure you put your name on that because when they take it over officially you will never hear your name called, and so be it, so it is. You know and these are little things, it's not that I want to be praised but get it straight so the young people can know the truth about things. Don't go around making others feel like they are doing something, because I did it 5,520 times up and down with all those 23 flags the boys scouts only showed up 3 times, I take that back, they only showed up 5 times in the 4 years I did it, one year they showed up twice and then once a year."
