COVID cases continue to spike across central and northern Belize, and, distressingly, the death toll in the past 24 hours is four.
Two deaths out of Orange Walk were reported today: preliminary information is that they were two males, one in Orange Walk and one from the KHMH.
And, last night there were also two deaths reported: both females: one in Corozal who was in her 60s and was classified as a sudden death; and the second case is in a female in her 30s from Bella Vista, Stann Creek. Her case comes out of that cluster in the banana farms - which has now forced the declaration of a curfew in that area.
There are currently 3 patients intubated at the KHMH, 2 males and one female. One female was taken off the ventilator yesterday and remains hospitalized, while two patients were discharged earlier today. Three other confirmed cases are on supplementary oxygen and one highly suspect case is under observation.
The Northern Regional Hospital has three confirmed cases hospitalized, two males and one female. One patient was discharged earlier today.
Yesterday, 477 samples were processed and it produced a record number of positives: a total of 166, a high positivity rate of 34.8%.
Notably, most of the cases, 47 came out of the Belize District - including 23 in the city and 15 in Ladyville, while 36 came out of the Cayo District - 19 of them in Belmopan.
Also, there were 29 cases in Stann Creek, 12 of those from Santa Cruz and Bella Vista - the communities under curfew.
