Earlier this week, the Belize Defense Force Air Wing saluted 3 of their own, Captain Francis Usher, Captain Ciardi Glenn, and Sergeant Gongora, for completing their first military international flight to Toncontin International Airport in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
All 3 BDF pilots flew there in the BDF BN-2B Defender aircraft, making the BDFs' first international military flight in over 10 years. Toncontin is rated as one of the top 5 most dangerous airports in the world. Its approach is considered to be one of the most difficult. The Airwing considers this successful flight as a demonstration of the professionalism and capabilities of their pilots and their engineers.
The Airwing also noted that the flight's success could also be attributed to the recent forging of friendly relations with Honduras, which could pave the way for future military partnership, and possible scholarship opportunities for young aspiring Belizeans.
