Courtenay - who has responsibility for Belize's 2 Cases Before the ICJ - told us he could not comment on the announcement made today that the Court will hold public hearings on Guatemala's Application for permission to intervene in the case concerning Sovereignty over the Sapodilla Cayes from 24th to 26th at The Hague in the Netherlands.

A release from the Court explains the background: in 2022, Belize launched proceedings against Honduras to once and for all settle the sovereignty over the Sapodilla Cayes - at the southern tip of the Belize Barrier Reef.

And then two years ago, Guatemala, which also claims the cayes asked to intervene in the case. And now that is what will be heard later this month. The public hearing is expected to be live streamed.
