The long hours spent training, working with coaches, attending camps and maintaining a regimented diet, is a huge investment for athletes as they prepare to compete in a global sporting event like the Summer Olympics.

To alleviate some of this financial pressure the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association has awarded 6 Belizean athletes through the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Solidarity Program, Olympic Scholarships to cover some of their expenses in training.

At their press conference today their president gave us details on why these specific athletes were chosen, and we got to hear from them as well.

In total, the athletes are Davia Richardson for aquatics, Nyasha Harris, Brooklyn Lyttle and Brandon Adolphus for athletics and Derrick Chavarria and Jyven Gonzalez for cycling.
