Yesterday, the Cabinet had its weekly meeting and several updates came out of it. For one, Cabinet approved proposed modifications to the Millennium Challenge Corporation Belize Compact. The changes include the reallocation of twenty million U.S. dollars in funding from the Education Project to the Energy Project. As you will recall, originally 20% of the funds was to be allocation to energy and 80% to education. However, Government has also committed to providing counterpart financing to support the implementation of the compact.

Cabinet also approved a one year moratorium on the issuance of new licenses for the use of the 66 foot reserve and seabed to construct docks, piers, and other overwater structures in coastal and marine urban and peri urban areas. The temporary halt will allow the government to conduct a nationwide inventory of existing structures while reviewing and strengthening the regulatory framework to improve monitoring, compliance, and enforcement related to the management of the reserve and seabed.

Additionally, they have been updated on the progress of the technical review of recommendations submitted by the People's Constitution Commission. According to a statement, the review outlines a structured methodology aimed at clearly defining the proposals and legally assessing them as part of a roadmap toward possible constitutional reform.
