You may have heard the public back and forth about a proposed pension for mayors serving 3 terms. It was floated for discussion at a recent meeting of the mayors association.

The mayor who would be most readily eligible is Earl Trapp who is in his 4th term as mayor.

He said the proposals has been floating for 10 years:

Earl Trapp, SISE Mayor

"I will be honest with you, the item of pension for Mayors has been on the table since well I became a mayor in 2015 when Darrel Bradley was the mayor and since then that item has been on the table, the item of Mayor's receiving a pension after they leave and I think they would have had to serve at least 3 terms you know but the then government of the day had shoved it one side and today this present government has been listening but it is still on one corner but yes I believe that like any employee any individual that has worked for so many years they look for some sort of benefit that will help them in their elderly years so I don't see anything wrong to vouch for a pension for mayors. If public servants can work towards and see through to a pension why mayors can't. Ministers of government receive a pension, so why don't the hard working mayors that have put so many years of their lives into the development of this community, into the bettering people lives, why can't they work towards getting a pension, I don't see why, I don't see what's the problem with that."

"I hope that something could be put in place as well for some mayors that have left the council for some years now it could maybe be something that could be retroactive but again, it is something that would have to be fleshed out."
