"Till the land and work the soil" - that's the exhortation given to all farmers and for two of Belize's best young farmers that universal mission will now be made that much easier with the donation of a specialized machine. It's called a rotor tiller and today in Belmopan two of them, both 19 horsepower, were donated by the Taiwanese Ambassador to Belize's junior and female farmers of the year. Joel Lazo from Bomba, who farms onions and red kidney beans on a 15 acre spread told the Government Press Office that it will make his labor much easier.

Joel Lanza, Farmer
"This equipment will help me a lot because what I used to do with a fork, now I can do it with this. It is much easier, it is much faster, and it will be very helpful to me."

Rudy Aguilar, Government Press Office
"Okay and how you do you feel about the gift now?"

Joel Lanza,
"I feel a little bit surprised because I didn't know when they told me the Prime Minister wanted to see me, I didn't know, I didn't imagine something big like this."

Lazo sets up shop in the Belize market. The female farmer of the year Darlene Balam from Bullet Tree Falls took her rotor tiller for a test drive on the grounds in front of the Prime Minister's office. She works a five acre farm that produces cabbage, lettuce, broccoli, tomatoes and sweet pepper.
