It happened over the long weekend, but police have just disclosed details of a major break in at NAAFI, the British Forces retail outlet at the BATSUB compound, which is within the BDF's Price Barracks in Ladyville.
On Tuesday the warehouse manager Wendy Nicholas called Ladyville police to report that sometime over the holiday weekend, thieves gained access to the NAAFI warehouse and made off with a bounty of electronic items. They stole 28 Apple Ipods, 6 Casio digital cameras and 7 MP3 players. All totaled, the high end consumer electronic toys cost $37,535 and could probably fit in two stuffed knapsacks.
Ladyville police have no leads and no one detained. The case is sensitive because the theft occurred within a secured military compound guarded 24 hours a day by the BDF. Both the BDF and BATSUB share the compound, and as we understand it, tensions between the forces have been heightened by the burglary.
