He's accused of shooting his ex-common law wife in a fit of jealously and today 33 year old taxi driver Harold Gilbert Mahler appeared in court to face charges. Mahler was charged with attempted murder, grievous harm and used of deadly means of harm when he appeared in Magistrate's Court number one. He was remanded until June 2nd.
At 4am on Saturday April 29, Ursula Smith heard someone calling at the door of her home on Antelope Street. When she opened her wooden louvers to see who it was, she was shot in the right arm. She says she had her 3-year-old son with her when she ran to her bedroom to avoid further injury.
Smith reports that her ex-common law husband became jealous because after she heard the knock at her door she called out the name of another man who she thought had come to visit her. The couple had lived together for seven years and share two children.
