Changing topics now - there's rarely every good news anymore in the depressed citrus industry.
But, a release today puts a happy face on a new development.
It says that a recent joint meeting between the Citrus Growers Association, The Belize Citrus Mutual and the Citrus Products of Belize Limited, resulted in the agreement of historic prices to be paid by CPBL to the Citrus Growers for the 2023-2024 season. The parties have settled that $18 BZ per box is to be paid for both grapefruits and oranges based on 5-7 pounds per box of oranges and 4 pounds per grapefruit.
The parties have noted that the record high prices for oranges are as a result of government assistance provided to the citrus growers.
