And Shyne might surprise him. Today at our studio we asked the Leader of the Opposition what he expected to include in his address and he projected a certain mature, laid back approach:
Jules Vasquez
"There had been a convention, a formal convention in place for some time that it won't be, you know, it won't be all about politics on that day. You know, it should be about nation building, about the well-being of the state, not just taking political swipes, but I think John Briceno, he dashed that in water, when he was leader of the opposition and you drown in water last year with your very politicized address. What should we look forward to this year?"
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"Balance. Balance and evolution. Balance and evolution."
Jules Vasquez
"So is it to say that your message this year will be less indicting, less strident, less on the attack than it was last year?"
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"Balance and evolution. I believe that patriotism requires a sober analysis of the state of affairs and the prime minister will obviously give his description of everything that he deems good in Belize when there is so much wrong."
"So there has to be a balanced struck with highlighting the need for improvement and finding within ourselves what we can do as Belizeans. So my message is going to surround that. What us as Belizeans can do to bring forth the Belize that we deserve because politicians have failed us repeatedly."
Of course, the ceremony will air live in Channel 7 tomorrow morning starting at 9:00.
